DIY ‘staple’ craft is no longer a staple of the American household

NEW YORK —  A couple who lived a modest lifestyle with a farmhouse on the edge of their neighborhood for more than 30 years now have bought a two-story, three-bedroom home in Manhattan for $1.4 million.

The property, which has four bedrooms, four bathrooms and a pool, was bought by a family who had a similar style of residence in the 1970s and 80s, the couple, who requested anonymity, told The Associated Press.

The family had lived in the home for more then 30 years and had recently been remodeled, the owners said.

They said the house was on their list of things to do, but were not sure if it would be available in time for the wedding.

“It’s not a luxury home, it’s just a regular old two-family house,” the family said.

The couple said they were thrilled to finally own the house.

After spending nearly $400,000 to renovate the property in the past couple of years, they said they now had a home that was much more affordable.
